Slurred for a Word

2020

“I couldn’t speak so I slurred while I looked for a word,

but you left just before I could find it.“

A line from one of my favorite songs “Face Like Thunder” by The Japanese House

This artwork was made at the tail end of nearly a decade long relationship, and I was processing the versions of myself I had been over the years with my partner and holding a new, alone gooey version of myself that I really wasn’t sure what to do with.

At one point I thought this piece was about social anxiety but after a few years of reflection I think its more about just feeling incredibly vulnerable.
