META AR experience

In 2022 I teamed up with META to create this AR experience and artwork.

This work was inspired by 6 different butterflies, the Monarch, Mourning Cloak, Common Buckeye, Red Admiral, Fiery Skipper, and the Oeneis (Arctic Butterfly)

To highlight their rugged yet extremely fragile nature I’ve made the forms extending off of the wings a reflective metallic texture. I love their seamless and sometimes mirage like existence with the sky in real life and I think the AR captures that too.

Some of the species I chose to recreate live in harsh climates, some temperate.  Some don’t have a very far migration pattern at all and others travel thousands of miles (the Monarch). What I am trying to express through my selection is that any efforts are admirable for these creatures and the same goes for any animal or other insects on earth.
